Do you or someone you know love wild birds? Are you amazed by the re-discovery of this woodpecker that was thought extinct for years? Then this is a must-have item that will be used every day!!! Last officially seen in 1937, this enormous and magnificent woodpecker was thought extinct until 2004, when David Luneau of the University of Arkansas Little Rock filmed an Ivory-Billed at the Cache River Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas. This Ivory-Billed Woodpecker (Campephilus principalis) is clinging to a piece of dead tree and has drilled a hole where the keyring attaches. This woodpecker is accurately reproduced from nature (The famous drawings of Roger Tory Peterson were used as the model) and is painstakingly hand carved and cast in small batches here in the good old USA out of genuine pewter, this is no cheap mass-produced item, but an unusual and beautiful collector's item sure to make a great gift for the ornithologist in your life.
