This keychain depicts a variety of habitats and organisms from the world-girdling network of deep sea (benthic) communities that has continued to astonish explorers since their discovery in 1977. The isolation of these oases of life in the abyss has resulted in enormous diversity. Otherworldly tube-worms cling to the sides of hydrothermal vents. Fields of mussels surround dense pools of brine. These, and many others defy extremes of heat and cold and pressure to flourish in the deep.

The two halves of this keychain can be opened, showing a cutaway section of these habitats. Arrows depict the circulation of super-heated water around the vents, and deposits of metal-rich mud are also shown. Comes with a detailed explanatory diagram. A unique educational accessory for aspiring explorers!
